Viral Tik Tok Recipes in order of deliciousness & simplicity by an amateur cook

By: Wei Qing Lim

Since starting my first full-time job in January, I have not had much time to think about anything other than work from 8am to 6pm. Sometimes, it’s hard to even spare one brain cell to aimlessly scroll through Tik Tok on weeknights! But, thanks to my algorithm, my time on Tik Tok never ends in vain. I always end up “favoriting” every single recipe I come across! In an attempt to make use of all my bookmarks, I have come up with my top 3 Tik Tok recipes that have been easy, delicious, AND fun to make-- I feel like I’ve accomplished something after making these simple dishes, and that’s so important!

1. Feta Pasta

Okay, guys, you KNEW I had to start this list off with a bang. The hype surrounding this recipe is equivalent to the Dalgona whipped coffee from the first lockdown-- Food52 posted about it, and it’s all over social media. But is it really as mind blowingly delicious as everyone claims it to be? Even after seeing Tik Tok after Tik Tok of normal civilians making the famous feta pasta in what seemed like 3 easy steps, I was a little skeptical that it would live up to the hype. I was truly mistaken. The combination of olive oil, a chunk of feta cheese, a litter of cherry tomatoes, Italian seasoning and an oven preheated to 400 fahrenheit for 40 minutes is everything you need in a pasta sauce. It is also very versatile - allowing you to add some of your favorite toppings (I added some garlic and red onions). This dish is NOT for the faint of heart-- it’s creamy, juicy, and proves to everyone that you don’t need a fancy list of ingredients and steps to make a pasta dish that’ll sweep you off your feet. This may have been one of the easiest, most surprising recipes I have had this lockdown - (not counting the iconic Vietnamese pizza recipe, throwback to lockdown 1.0). 10/10 would recommend this recipe, but I’m sure all of you know that by now!

2. Yogurt Bark

This might be my favorite sweet snack right now! It’s a step up from regular yogurt and fruit, and the texture and taste reminds me of ice cream (or a popsicle). On the plus side, it’s super healthy and it goes well with everything! While I was initially overwhelmed with the freedom to pick any yogurt and fruit of choice, I decided to embrace the options and chose some all natural greek yogurt with blueberries and granola as my toppings. After 3.5 hours in the freezer, they came out amazing! It honestly tasted DELICIOUS and I cannot wait to make more yogurt bark with different combinations! I’m thinking of doing kiwi and strawberries next!

3. Baked Oat Bars

You can make your own jam bars! I had NO IDEA this was possible! For all of our vegan friends, it’s vegan! These remind me exactly of the Gluten Free PB&J Bars from TJ’s. All you need is a blender, oats, a super ripe banana, and some frozen fruit for your jam filling! It’s so easy to make, and the ingredients are extremely affordable. You don’t have to head to TJ’s and spend $5 to get your oat bar fix anymore, unless you want to, of course!

I hope these recipes have been helpful-- they were illegally delicious considering the effort I put into making them. Let us know if you ever end up trying them out, we would LOVE to hear about it!
